We’re incredibly proud to announce that Bury Film Group founder, Thomas Howard, has won the Personal Achievement Award at the Autism Hero Awards 2025, held at Regents Park, London.
Hosted by the charity Anna Kennedy Online, the Autism Hero Awards celebrate individuals and organisations making a real difference in the autism community. Thomas received this national recognition for his tireless advocacy around neurodiversity and for his work creating inclusive cinema experiences for people with disabilities and those facing financial challenges.
Since launching Bury Film Group CIC in 2023, Thomas has brought hundreds of people together to enjoy free, autism-friendly film screenings in a welcoming and relaxed environment. These screenings offer a lifeline for those who might otherwise struggle to access traditional cinema due to sensory differences or financial barriers. Each event is a celebration of community, inclusion, and the joy of film.
Thomas has also been leading the call for change in higher education. His petition for mandatory neurodiversity training for university staff attracted over 16,000 signatures and was debated in Parliament—helping to spark a national conversation about how autistic students are supported.
Reflecting on the award, Thomas said:
“To be recognised among so many incredible advocates is truly humbling. This award isn’t just for me—it’s for every person who has ever felt left out, and for everyone working to build a more inclusive society. I hope this shows what community-led projects can achieve, and encourages others to create spaces where everyone belongs.”
We are so proud of Thomas and everything he’s done to make Bury Film Group what it is today. This award marks a huge milestone—not only for Thomas, but for the vision of inclusive cinema we all share.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission. Here’s to many more screenings, shared stories, and accessible adventures on the big screen.
